Troubleshooting video recording

We've worked hard to enable BB FlashBack to record your screen at a good frame rate. However, because of the widely varying capabilities of different PCs and video cards it is possible that some users will be unable to run certain record modes at a high frame rate.

How to email Blueberry technical support:

If you are experiencing difficulties with recording modes and performance, you can easily email our technical support team for help.

  1. Open the Recorder Options window and select the Record modes tab.

  2. Click the Troubleshooting button and select Send email to support.

  3. In the wizard, describe your problem as fully as you can. If you want a response to your report, include your email address.

  4. The wizard will send an email directly to our technical support team. Details of your PC specification are attached, but this does NOT contain any personal information - just a description of your PC hardware.

Note: before emailing, try the hints below - they may solve your problem.

Hints for Windows 2000, XP, 2003 users

Capture driver mode is disabled

If capture driver mode is not available for selection on the Record mode tab of the Recorder Options window, try rebooting your PC. Occasionally PCs may require a reboot before the capture driver can operate correctly after installation - a message would have been displayed during BB FlashBack installation requesting this. If the capture driver mode still cannot be selected after rebooting, use the instructions above to send an email report to Blueberry technical support - it should only take a minute.

Low frame rate when recording moving video

By default, Windows 2000, XP and 2003 users will use the capture driver record mode. This mode is best at recording normal Windows applications - not moving video.

To change the record mode used:

And then try to record the moving video again.

Hints for all users:

DirectX or GDI modes are disabled or only available at a low frame rate

If you have run the test and found that DirectX and GDI recording modes are disabled, or only available at low FPS values there are some actions you can take to improve your PC's graphics performance.

Recording moving video results in a black rectangle in the FlashBack movie where the video should be

If you recorded using GDI mode and see a black rectangle in the FlashBack movie where there should be moving video in a Media Player-type application, go to the Record Mode tab of the Recorder Options window and select the Turn off hardware acceleration while recording option. This should enable recording of Media Player-type applications.

If you recorded using Capture driver mode and see a black rectangle, go to the Record Mode tab of the Recorder Options window and select either GDI or DirectX mode. if using GDI mode, ensure the Turn of hardware acceleration while recording option is selected.
